........ Museum Oil & Gas ........ Exhibit Donation

The Farmington Museum recently received a $1,300 donation from the Farmington Desk and Derrick Club.

This is the first donation of the year toward the museum's planned expansion of the existing From Dinosaurs to Drill Bits exhibit. The Desk and Derrick Club also helped raise funds for the first phase of the Farmington Museum's interactive oil and gas Exhibit.

The planned expansion will increase the existing 1,500 square-foot exhibit into a new 4,000 square-foot wing designated to the energy industry. The space will be used to focus on the history, technologies, and issues facing the oil and gas industry. In addition to the oil and gas industry the expansion will look at other energy producers in the area including the coal industry and alternative forms of energy.

Since the exhibit opened in 2004 the museum has had over 44,000 visitors. The exhibit is used during Farmington's "Energy Week". The program is designed to show eighth grade science students how lessons learned in the classroom relate to the areas oil and gas industry. Last year "Energy Week" had over 800 eighth grade students spend time at the Farmington Museum. The program is a collaborative effort between area schools, oil and gas companies and the museum.
